Visiting foreign scientists

In the light of the transformation into the research university, KATU aims at active entrance into the world educational and scientific space and considers international cooperation and internationalization activities as one of the most important areas of development.

An important characteristic of the expansion of international scientific and educational relations of KATU is the geography of attracting foreign professors and research scientists as well as external academic mobility.

The purpose of the Program of attracting foreign scientists to KATU is to deepen the cooperation with the leading world scientific and educational centers and organizations, to promote KATU in the world scientific and educational space and integration into the international education space, which is a condition to enhance its competitiveness.

The effectiveness of attracting foreign scientists to KATU

The strategic partner that supports KATU in the reform process is the University of California, Davis - №1 research university in the field of agriculture in the world. Leading professors work in Kazakhstan and support KATU in reforming management systems, educational and research activities. Two new educational masters program in the field of food industry and agricultural machinery, were developed with the participation of professors from Davis for the purpose of training specialists for SPIID.

In 2015-2016 academic year 4 experts and in 2016-2017 academic year 6 experts from the University of California in Davis and the University of Arkansas (USA) visited KATU for the joint development of 6 educational master programs in the framework of SPIID.

It is important to note that, from October 15 to 24, 2016, KATU was visited by the Honorary Professor of the University of California in Davis (USA) Paul Singh for conducting workshops and master classes for academic staff, specialists and students of KATU within the framework of SPIID.

Leading professors work in Kazakhstan and support KATU in reforming the management system, educational and research activities. Since 2012, 119 foreign scientists from the leading universities of 21 countries around the world have visited KATU for delivering lectures and practical training in the framework of the Program of attracting foreign scientists to Kazakhstani universities.

In 2016-2017, 4 foreign scientists delivered lectures in the framework of the Fulbright program of US Embassy, the EU Erasmus + program and on a free basis for KATU students.

In particular, professor of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (USA) Asim Esen during one academic year delivered lectures for students of agronomy and veterinary science faculties in the framework of the Fulbright program.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine of Justus Liebig University Giessen Christian Bauer has been delivering lectures for students of the veterinary science faculty annually since 2016.

Also in the period from 3 to 9 February 2018, the former vice-president of INRA, the world-famous scientist-agrarian Mr. Guy Riba (France) visited KATU to develop a new vision for reforming the scientific and educational system of KATU.

Necessary documents for the invitation of foreign scientists:

  1. curriculum vitae;
  2. copy of passport;
  3. copy of diplomas and the certificates confirming a scientific degree or status of the foreign scientist;
  4. working program of discipline with the indication of a number of hours, credits, purpose and tasks of discipline, the name of lectures;
  5. list of publications.

Main conditions of the visit:

  1. scientists have to be from the TOP 500 best universities of the world according to QS rating;
  2. period of stay is not less than 14 days or for the term of 1 semester or more
