Vitamin-enriched vegetable oil - KATU project

On April 16, 2021, a comprehensive seminar “Enrichment of vegetable oil with vitamins A and D in Kazakhstan” was held on the example of S.Seifullin KATU, Nur-Sultan city, on a pilot line for the production of vegetable oils of the Department of Technologies of Food and Processing Industries at the site of a scientific and experimental platform for processing agricultural products.

The seminar examined and discussed the relevance of enriching vegetable oil with vitamins A and D for health and development, presented supporting evidence from the best practices of countries on quality control and safety of goods and services with the composition of the vitamin premix, standard, methods of analysis for internal and external monitoring of quality assurance and quality control, safety technology, information on the draft standard for the enrichment of vegetable oil (ORM) in Kazakhstan with vitamins A and D approved by Order No. 283-od of the Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 5, 2020. National standard of the Republic of Kazakhstan ST RK 3547-2020 “Fortified sunflower oil. Specification”, developed by the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition (KAP), presents the results of the work “Investigation of Vitamin A Stability - Supply Chain Analysis”.

Nevzorov - President of the ALE “Association “Fat and Oil Union of Kazakhstan”, Klaus Sondergard, specialist in global applications and technical marketing, BASF, M.T. Rakhimzhanova - Head of the Directorate for the Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases and Control over Safety Objects of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, employees of the Academy of Nutrition, Eurasian Foods Corporation JSC, scientists, doctoral students, undergraduates of the Department of Food and Processing Industry of S.Seifullin KATU.

In 2020, the European Union (EU) provided technical assistance to the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition for the Voluntary Edible Oil Fortification in Kazakhstan project. Partners in the project implementation in Kazakhstan are KAP, EU, International organizations 2FAS and Landell-Mills, providing advisory services for food fortification, the Global Alliance for Improvement in Nutrition (GAIN), the world's largest chemical concern BASF and the ALE “Association “Fat and Oil Union of Kazakhstan”.

The project aims to strengthen government regulatory capacity for quality assurance and quality control (QA / QC) for fortification with vitamins A and D in the vegetable oil sector, as well as the knowledge base to increase commitment to this government strategy and to subsequently promote the mandatory fortification of edible oil with vitamins A and D.

Further cooperation is planned within the framework of the project.
