S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University (KATRU) is a key participant in the international project "EduFusion Network for Sustainable Growth," which was launched last week in Vigo, Spain. This extensive initiative aims to modernize higher education in Kazakhstan by promoting sustainable connections among universities, businesses, and society. The project is supported by the European Union as part of the Erasmus+ program (CBHE Strand 3).
EduFusion brings together ten partners, including the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, six Kazakh universities, and prominent European educational and research institutions. KATRU represents Kazakhstan internationally in the transformation of engineering education, emphasizing sustainability, inclusivity, and practical application.
Ms. Elmira Uteubayeva, the Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Academic Mobility and Ms. Bakyt Abenova, the Head of the Career and Internship Center, represented KATRU at the launch. They are actively working on developing a new model of engineering education that focuses on sustainable development, digital transformation, and inclusivity for all student groups, particularly women, youth from rural areas, and students with special needs.
KATRU has started developing professional development modules for engineering faculty to improve their teaching and digital skills. Additionally, the university plans to launch online courses in collaboration with European partners and is actively focused on integrating dual education practices and industry collaboration into the educational process.
International Partnership
The project involves several European institutions, including the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, which serves as the project coordinator, the University of Vigo in Spain, and Enter Network in Greece. Enter Network specializes in enhancing collaboration between universities and businesses. The Ourense Campus at the University of Vigo is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and sustainability in engineering education. Experts from this institution, such as Professors María Isabel Duval, Marcos Arias, and Fermin Navarro, are sharing their best practices with colleagues in Kazakhstan to help develop a socially-oriented engineering curriculum.
Kazakhstan is strategically located between Europe and Central Asia, making it an important site for initiatives aimed at developing a sustainable and inclusive educational system. KATRU, the leading agrotechnical university in the country, plays a crucial role in this transformation. The university is committed to international cooperation, innovative learning approaches, and actively contributing to the "education of the future."
The EduFusion project, which will take place over four years, aims to enhance KATRU's leadership in engineering education, expand global partnerships, and implement sustainable solutions to address the challenges of the XXI century.
