On October 1, 2025, a working visit of the delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University (KATRU) to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Uppsala) took place with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr. Olzhas Suleimenov.
SLU Vice-Rector Ylva Hillbur delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of international scientific and academic cooperation in addressing global challenges. In his response, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Taszhurekov highlighted the prospects of joint educational and research projects.
A speech was also delivered by Rosa Abisheva, Provost and Member of the Board of KATRU, who underlined the significance of long-term partnership with a leading European university and the opportunities it opens for collaboration in both academic and research spheres.
During the visit, participants presented the following key areas of activity: achievements of KATRU – R. Abisheva, E. Uteubayeva; strategic priorities of the university – Prof. Vadim Kessler; science–business cooperation – Managing Director Urban Eriksson; research activities of Kazakh Research Institute of Farming and Crop Production – Sh. Bastaubaeva; molecular studies at Uppsala University – Prof. Håkan Engström; new agrotechnical technologies at SLU – Research Director Gustav Rogstrand.
Special attention was devoted to issues of academic mobility. Discussions were held with Geir Löe, International Officer of the Division of Planning, who presented SLU’s experience in developing international exchanges and integrating students and faculty into the global educational space.
Between sessions, a coffee break provided an opportunity for participants to exchange views and discuss prospects for cooperation in an informal atmosphere.
The visit confirmed the strong interest of both sides in developing bilateral cooperation. Among the promising areas are: launching joint educational programs, expanding academic mobility, organizing certified special courses for young researchers, implementing scientific projects, and introducing new molecular biotechnologies.
This collaboration is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening scientific and educational partnership between Kazakhstan and Sweden, as well as to promoting innovations in the agro-industrial sector.
