The Faculty of Energy was established in 1965 with the aim of training specialists in the field of energy for the Northern and Central regions of Kazakhstan.
During the period of work, the faculty has trained more than 8.5 thousand specialists, many of whom occupy leading engineering and administrative positions in large energy organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, work as teachers and scientists. The faculty is one of the leading in Central and Northern Kazakhstan in its profile.
The faculty of the Faculty of Power Engineering includes 94 highly qualified specialists, 57 of whom have an academic degree, including 10 doctors of science, 35 candidates of science, 12 PhD, 34 masters, 5 have the academic title of professor, 24 are associate professors and associate professors, 7 teachers are holders of the title of "Best University Teacher", 3 teachers are graduates of the "Bolashak" program, 12 teachers conduct classes in English.
To ensure the educational process and conduct scientific research, the faculty has 21 laboratories that meet all necessary equipment requirements, 7 computer classes.

According to the State Center for Employment of Professionals and Employment of Graduates in 2024, the employment rate for bachelor's degree students was 78%, master's degree students - 100%, and doctoral degree students - 100%.

Since 2025, the Dean of the Faculty of Energy is PhD, Associate Professor Mergalimova Almagul Kairbergenovna.
In 1965, the Faculty of Agricultural Electrification was organized; its first dean was Yuri Zinovievich Venediktov. Together with the staff, he carried out a great deal of work on organizing departments, selecting teaching staff, and strengthening the material and technical base.
Soon the departments of “Production and Distribution of Electrical Energy” (head of department P.S. Klimenko), “Electric Drives and Electrical Machines” (head of department Associate Professor O.B. Kisel), and “General Electrical Engineering and Automation” (head of department L.M. Khoreva) were organized.
The first teachers Shpilko Yu.E., Khvan V.N., KolobovB.A., Kulinsky E.A., and the teaching master Kirenkin L.M. carried out a great deal of organizational work in the departments.
In 1967, the faculty was headed by Associate Professor Oleg Borisovich Kisel, with his direct participation a large-scale educational, methodological and scientific research work was launched. The most capable and talented graduates were invited to teach, and they formed the backbone of the faculty's teaching staff. These are Associate Professors, PhDs Anisimov Yu.V. andYakubovsky D.D., PhD Belay E.V., Senior Lecturers Kravchenko A.A., Kirchev D.G., Professors, PhDs TleuovA.Kh. and Vasiliev V.G., Associate Professors, PhDs BabkoA.N., Krasnikov V.I. and Leznaya O.N., Senior Lecturers Bekibaev Zh.T. and Letuta G.M., Assistant Tsarev E.I.
Much attention was paid to research work and training of scientific and pedagogical personnel at the faculty. Under the supervision of Associate Professor Kisel O.B. and Professor Maisel S.Ya. the following defended their candidate dissertations: Shpilko Yu.E., Reimer A.A., Belay E.V., VasilievV.G. and Anisimov Yu.V. Yakubovsky D.D., Tleuov A.Kh., Babko A.N., Krasnikov V.I., Gurvich L.I., Pyastolova I.A., Leznaya O.N., Ryabtsunov S.Yu. As a result of scientific developments, more than 60 author's certificates for inventions were received. Teachers Kisel O.B., Yakubovsky D.D., SavateevN.I., Anisimov Yu.V., Dil' A.L., Babko A.N., Vasiliev V.G. and Bratel B.I. were awarded the "Inventor of the USSR" badges, and Doctor of Technical Sciences Vasiliev V.G. was awarded the silver medal of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements, and Associate Professor Krasnikov V.I. was awarded the bronze medal.
