Every year, the sports club and the department of physical education organize the work of more than 20 sports sections at the university, in which more than 500 student athletes and 40 teachers and staff train.
The most developed sports in KATU are basketball, volleyball, arm wrestling, Kazakh kuresi, belt wrestling, boxing and mini football.
The teams of the university are multiple winners in the team standings in 17 sports of the traditional Spartakiad of students of higher educational institutions of the city of Nur-Sultan.
The women's basketball team is the winners of the IV, V - Summer Universiades of the universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, champions of the "Student League" in 2008, 2010, as part of the national team of the city of Nur-Sultan "Astana Zholbarystary": four-time champions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, three-time winners of the Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2011, in New York City (USA), a student of the Faculty of Energy Adilbek Ashimov became the world champion in kettlebell lifting for the first time in the history of our university.
