On April 29, 2026, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Head of the “Finance, Accounting and Audit” Department T.A. Kussainov conducted a university-level methodological seminar on the topic “Application of Spreadsheet Technologies in the Analysis of Managerial Decisions: Simulation and Optimization.”
The purpose of the seminar was to study the capabilities of modern spreadsheet technologies such as Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets for analyzing managerial decisions, as well as to develop skills in modeling and optimizing business processes.
Within the framework of the seminar, the following issues were considered:
- fundamentals of working with spreadsheets;
- use of formulas and built-in functions;
- simulation methods (“what-if” analysis);
- optimization tools (Solver, problem formulation with constraints);
- data visualization and preparation of analytical reports.
The seminar was conducted in the form of a lecture with elements of practical training. During the event, participants were shown the main data analysis tools in Microsoft Excel.
Special attention was paid to:
- building forecasting models;
- applying the “Solver” tool for optimization;
- analyzing various scenarios of managerial situations.
Participants actively took part in the discussion and asked questions.
The objectives of the seminar were fully achieved. The event demonstrated the high relevance of applying spreadsheet technologies in the fields of management and economics. The knowledge gained can be effectively applied in the participants’ professional activities.
Recommendations: to continue conducting similar seminars; to expand the practical component.
