Visit of the EU delegation to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the HWCA project
On October 13, 2023, a delegation from EU partner universities visited the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to assess the needs within the framework of the HWCA project “Strengthening Higher Education in the Water Sector to Ensure Climate Resilience and Security in Central Asia”.
The delegation included: Marton Krasznai – Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, coordinator; Cinzia Giacinta Spinzi – University of Bergamo, Italy; Yulia Borissova – Kazakh-German University, Kazakhstan; Bota Sharipova – Institute of Water Education (IHE Delft), the Netherlands; Janara Baitugolova -Vice-Rector, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
Representatives of European partner universities visited the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where a meeting of the leadership was held: Shalmaganbetova S.S., Acting Chairman of the Water Resources Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation; Bekniyaz B.K., Director of the Executive Directorate of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Tazhgaliev E.N., General Director of the Kazakh Research Institute of Water Management; Imasheva G.S., head of the Shu-Talas Basin Inspectorate for regulation of the use and protection of water resources; Saken A., Head of the Department for Regulation and Accounting of Use of the Committee on Water Resources of the Ministry of Water Resources and I; Sarieva E.K., chief expert of the Department of State Policy in the Sphere of Water Resources, Department of Water Policy; Erbolat M.P., chief expert of the Office of State Policy in the Sphere of Water Resources of the Department of Water Policy; Madenova F.B., chief expert of the Department for Regulation and Accounting of Use of the Committee on Water Resources of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the RK.
During the meeting, the importance of training specialists in the field of water diplomacy and water resources management in Kazakhstan was emphasized. Issues covered included an analysis of the above industries and related industries in Kazakhstan, as well as a brief description of other related industries in Central Asia, an analysis of the water sector in Kazakhstan, including an analysis of disciplines aimed at teaching transboundary water resources, development policies, and programs, work with government agencies responsible for their preparation.
