On May 3, 2024, the presentation of the educational course “Ecoschool” was held with great success in Astana as part of the conference “Promotion of Environmental Education in Kazakhstan”.  Employees of the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment of the S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University took an active part in this event, which was held in offline and online format.

The conference was attended by Deputy Dean Zh.B. Bekpergenova, Associate Professor A.Sh. Utarbayeva, Senior G.T. Lecturer Botabekova. Also guests of the conference were employees of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology A.A.Yuldashev and D.K. Tursunov, undergoing an internship at S.Seifullin KATRU.

The speaker at the conference was Gulmira Kalmashevna Satybaldiyeva, acting. Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy. In her report, she focused the attention of the conference participants on the need to include the subject “Ecology” in all school and higher education programs, and that the basics of environmental education should be instilled from preschool age. Our university contributes to the development of cooperation between schools and higher education institutions.

In particular, within the framework of the international educational project UnWaste - EU ERASMUS+618715-EPP-1-2020-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of a circular economy in partner countries through the development and implementation of a master’s program “Waste Management,” the Department of “Ecology” announced a number of republican competitions for schoolchildren, college and university students: craft competition “Second life of waste”, video competition “Ecological problems of Kazakhstan”, competition of scientific projects on waste management, competition of posters, slogans and mottos on waste management. Participation in such competitions, along with high-quality educational literature, which includes the presented textbook “Ecoschool”, will help to form an ecological culture and worldview among the younger generation, teach them to love and take care of their native land and nature, and not to pollute the environment.


On April 27, 2024, cleanup days were held throughout the country to clean up and improve urban and rural areas. Teachers, including members of the team of the international educational project UnWaste EU ERASMUS+618715-EPP-1-2020-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of the circular economy in partner countries through the development and implementation of the master’s program “Waste Management” and 1st-3rd year students of the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment of the Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University named after Saken Seifullin took an active part in the cleanup in Kosshy, organized by the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources RK.

We thank the Association for the excellent organization of this event. The delivery of all cleanup participants on comfortable buses to the territory adjacent to the city of Kosshy was organized, all necessary equipment, t-shirts, caps, gloves, garbage collection bags were provided. I would like to note that we carried out separate collection of waste: plastic, metal, textiles and other waste were collected in separate bags, which were immediately transported by car for further disposal.

In a few hours, a significant area was cleared, which in the morning was literally strewn with garbage. We express our gratitude to everyone who took part in the preparation and conduct of the eco-cleaning day, we wish the social project “Stop waste” successful implementation throughout the country to attract the public to pressing environmental problems of our time, the formation of an ecological worldview and the social responsibility of citizens for the disposal of household waste, and instilling a caring attitude towards their native land and nature.


On April 26, 2024, EcoTalks was held in Astana, dedicated to Earth Day. The event was organized by the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan and took place within the framework of the “Stop Garbage” project. The meeting was attended by Aizhan Utarbayeva, teacher-developer of the international educational project UnWaste EU ERASMUS+618715-EPP-1-2020-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of the circular economy in partner countries through the development and implementation of the master programme “Management” waste" and 3rd year students of the department of "Ecology",  faculty of "Forestry, WildLife and Environment ",  S.Seifullin KATRU .

This platform brought together a wide range of government and public figures, specialists in the field of waste management, representatives of private business, educational institutions, and environmental activists. The purpose of the event was to familiarize ourselves with the ongoing work in the field of solving environmental issues, as well as discuss new ideas in the field of disposal and processing of waste and garbage.

The event was hosted by Asyl Okapova, manager of the “Stop Musor” project. The speakers were Aigul Solovyova, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan, Sergey Ponomarev, deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ambassador of the Stop Musor project, Mansur Oshurbaev, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Rashid Aidar, head of the Department of Solid Waste Regulation and cleaning the water surface of the Department of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management of Astana, Tanirbergen Berdongar, public figure and deputy of the 3rd convocations of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Reports were presented by Ainur Imbayeva, representative of the Nazarbayev University Sustainable Development Office on the topic “Universities’ experience in implementing environmental policies among students”, Alisher Tursyn, official representative of Kazakh

Tourism NC JSC on the topic “Development of ecotourism in Kazakhstan”, Aizhan Myrzagalieva, head LS Astana on the topic “Experience of separate collection of solid waste in the city of Astana”, Bazarbek Kamysbaev, eco-blogger on the topic “On the introduction of environmental habits in daily life.”

Asemgul Kereybaeva, founder of the “Like Komek” project, presented their creative approach to the problem of solid waste disposal with a report “A second life for things” and Karina Abysheva, an expert on sustainable development of the AgesandAges brand on the topic “Eco fashion in Kazakhstan. Is this real?

The participants of this meeting received a lot of useful and interesting information about the state of affairs in the field of environmental protection, recycling of production and consumption waste, and discussed ways to solve pressing environmental problems of our country.

Our students received excellent motivation to become qualified environmental specialists to solve problems with environmental pollution by various types of garbage and waste, and we invite everyone to enroll in the master’s degree program “Waste Management” at S.Seifullin KATRU.


On April 24, 2024, the S. Seifullin “Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University” NJSC held an “Open Day” for all graduates of schools, colleges and universities. The team of the UnWaste an international educational project EU ERASMUS+618715-EPP-1-2020-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of a circular economy in partner countries through the development and implementation of a “Waste Management” master programme took an active part in this event.

Local project coordinator Gulmira Kalmashevna Satybaldiyeva and members of the UnWaste team introduced the university guests to the main goals and objectives of the project, the result of which is a new educational program “Waste Management”, developed to raise awareness of the circular economy using the experience of leading European universities.

Master's students of this educational program will gain knowledge about the most advanced technologies and approaches in the field of waste processing, based on the principles of a circular economy, which is very important for Kazakhstan, and will become waste management specialists in demand in the labor market. The doors of our university are always open for you, dear graduates!!!


On April 23, 2024, a National Seminar on “green” agriculture in Kazakhstan was held in Astana within the framework of the TCP/RER/3906 project, organized by FAO representatives and experts in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The purpose of the workshop was to define green agriculture as a holistic, interdisciplinary and interconnected system for greening agri-food systems in support of the Green Economy Strategy in Kazakhstan and to identify the country's capacity development needs related to green agriculture.

The seminar brought together representatives and consultants from FAO, ministries and government departments: Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Ministry of National Economy, universities in agricultural fields, etc.

The seminar was attended by members of the UnWaste team - an international educational project EU ERASMUS+618715-EPP-1-2020-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of a circular economy in partner countries through the development and implementation of a master’s program “Waste Management” : Satybaldiyeva Gulmira Kalmashevna, local coordinator and Utarbayeva Aizhan Sharelevna, teacher-developer of the project.

The participants of the seminar were presented with reports by Tanya Santivanez is Agricultural Specialist at FAO REU on the topic “Fundamentals of Green Agriculture”, Zsuzsanna Kerestes, is Specialist in IPM and climate-resilient agricultural practices at FAO REU on the topic “Green Agriculture Platform” and Electronic training course "Green Agriculture", Darina Ostrikova is Expert on national policy in the field of green agriculture FAO-KZ on the topic "Analysis of green agriculture policy: main conclusions."

The issues raised by the experts were very relevant for the development of greening the economy of our country, including “green” waste management in the agricultural sector. During the discussion, policy analysis was discussed and recommendations were proposed for the successful promotion of the FAO project in Kazakhstan and the development of a green economy and green agriculture in our region.

 


April 19, 2024 at A. Baitursynov Kostanay Regional University held the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Baitursynov Readings – 2024” on the topic: “The concept of the development of higher education and science in Kazakhstan - the basis for the growth of human capital and innovation.” The online conference was attended by teaching staff and undergraduates of the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Forestry, Wildlife and  Environment of S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University, who are members of the UnWaste team - an international educational project EU ERASMUS+ 618715-EPP-1-2020-1-DE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Development of a circular economy in partner countries through the development and implementation of a Master Programme in Waste Management”. 

During the work of the section “Sustainable Development and Waste Management” (moderator - Gulnara Batyrbekovna Yunusova, local coordinator of the UnWaste project), reports were heard from master's students of A. Baitursynov KRU and S. Seifullin KATRU. Our university presented master's students of the 2nd year of study in the EP “Sustainable Management of Natural Resources”: Veronica Sokol with a report on the topic “Organic waste and methods of their disposal” (scientific supervisor, candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Gulmira Kalmashevna Satybaldiyeva); Kuralai Baigan with a report on the topic “The relevance of the issue of recycling waste paper in Kazakhstan” (scientific supervisor, candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Kazbek Kamalievich Shupshibayev); Albina Akhantaeva with a report on the topic “Biotechnologies for the production of microbial protein and other substances for the disposal of waste from crop production and food industry” (scientific supervisor, candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Aizhan Sharelevna Utarbayeva). 

The conference was very useful, master's students of A. Baitursynov KSU and S. Seifullin KATRU presented the results of their own research work and reviews of advanced technologies for the collection, sorting, disposal and processing of industrial and consumer waste, analyzed achievements and ways to solve problematic issues in the field of waste management in the world and Kazakhstan.


 


April 2, 2024 A.Sh. Utarbayeva together with 1st and 2nd year students - members of the ecological club "Ecolife" of the Department of Ecology, Faculty of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment of the S.Seifullin KATSU they held an intellectual game on the topic "My ecological world without waste. Battle of experts! The event is dedicated to the International Day for a World Without Waste, which is celebrated on March 30. The purpose of the game is to show students’ knowledge in the field of waste and develop creative thinking in solving environmental problems related to environmental pollution by waste. Attract potential master's students to the EP “Waste Management”. During the game, students showed their knowledge in the field of waste and the ability to think creatively and make decisions to solve waste problems in our country. According to the results of the game, the team of students of the 02-051-22-03 group won, and the second place with an equal number of points was shared by the teams of the 02-051-22-04 and 02-051-23-03 groups. All the winners were awarded diplomas and delicious gifts, and all participants received certificates. This game was able not only to show our experts in the field of topical environmental problems, their creativity and knowledge in the field of waste management, but also to rally students for further teamwork in solving environmental problems and problems! We wish our students good health, success in all their endeavors, an active life position in the field of environmental protection and invite them to enroll in the Master's degree program in the future, developed as part of the implementation of the international educational project EU Erasmus+ Un Waste "Development of a circular economy (closed-loop economy) in partner countries based on the development and implementation of the Master Programme "Waste Management". The training of qualified specialists in the field of waste management will help to contribute to solving urgent environmental problems of our country. We are for a world without waste!!!
