Purpose of the educational program: The main purpose of the educational program "Safety and quality of food products" is mastered by undergraduates’ questions of quality assurance and food safety. In this regard, the content of the educational program is aimed at obtaining knowledge and practical skills for carrying out veterinary and sanitary examination of food quality and safety in the conditions of the Customs Union and the World Trade Organization, and in accordance with the requirements and recommendations of international veterinary organizations (OIE, FAO, WHO, etc.).

The main objectives of the educational master program on the specialty "7M091 - Veterinary" are:

  • to teach undergraduates by modern methods of practical organization and work on the veterinary-sanitary expertise of food products;
  • to introduce undergraduates with the main groups of foreign substances contained in food products that can cause harm to animals’ and human’s bodies;
  • to teach methods for determining the main foreign substances contained in food;
  • to develop the ability of students to self-improvement and to master new knowledge;  
  • to promote the acquisition of skills to participate in scientific events at various levels, the continuation of scientific training in doctoral studies.

This program is designed to meet the requirements of potential employers who need specialists to work in the laboratories of veterinary-sanitary examination and food safety.

General characteristics of the educational program: The educational program for the specialty "7M091 - Veterinary" was developed in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework and professional standards, consistent with the Dublin descriptors and the European Qualifications Framework, based on the State Compulsory Education Standard of Postgraduate Education, Magistracy, approved by the Order of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 31 2018 No. 604, registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan on November 1, 2018 No. 17669.

General educational competencies (with SES)

  • awareness of the social importance of the profession, possession of motivation to carry out professional activities;
  • the ability to use systematic theoretical and practical knowledge of the humanitarian and social sciences in solving social and professional problems;
  • mastering the methodology of scientific experiment and analysis of factual material in the field of veterinary medicine for practical application in professional activities;
  • skills of work on modern means of information and communication technology. 

Basic competencies (with SES)

1) ensuring of food safety:

  • quality control and safety of finished products and livestock raw materials;
  • carrying out veterinary measures to improve the productive qualities of animals;
  • ensuring the production of good-quality animal products in veterinary and sanitary position;

2) ensuring human and animal biosafety:

  • diagnostics, prevention and elimination of contagious and non-contagious diseases of animals, birds, fish and bees;
  • protection of the population from diseases common to humans and animals;
  • protection of the country from the introduction of infectious diseases;
  • observance of veterinary and sanitary rules in the production and sale of biopharmaceuticals, medicines.

3) ensuring environmental safety:

  • protection of the territory from anthropozoonosis diseases;
  • protection of the country’s territory from substandard wastes of the food industry, enterprises to produce raw materials and biopreparations.

Professional competencies

  • ability to navigate in such modern scientific concepts as a uniform health, animal welfare, explaining the unity, diversity and approaches to veterinary activities;
  • readiness to apply integrated data analysis methods to explain specific veterinary facts and problems;
  • skills of application of general scientific and special principles and methods of knowledge in the analysis;
  • be able to synthesize the theoretical, practical and ethical elements of professional competence;
  • ability to develop and implement specialized training programs in educational institutions of the veterinary and biological profile;
  • ability to use special knowledge gained in the framework of the educational trajectory of undergraduates.
