Awarded degree: Master of Agriculture in the EP «Livestock Sectors».

Duration of study: 1.5 years (core area).

The purpose of the educational program: Training of professionally competent top production managers with special knowledge and specific skills to solve innovative problems of developing a priority sector of the economy - livestock breeding in Kazakhstan.

The objectives of the educational program:

  • the formation of a complex of professional, managerial and personal competencies for future masters, according to employers of livestock enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan, taking into account global trends in the development of livestock industries;
  • attracting the experience of a foreign partner university and leading specialists from manufacturing-employers to the development of academic programs;
  • improving the practice-oriented knowledge and skills of future specialists by creating their own research base in the structure of the university’s production unit “Scientific platform for animal husbandry” and cooperation with high-tech animal husbandry enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • advanced training of teaching staff at the leading universities of Kazakhstan and abroad;
  • organization of internships by graduate students at high-tech livestock enterprises and internships at leading specialized universities in Kazakhstan and abroad;
  • organization and implementation of measures for the transition to training in English: teaching 30% of the subjects of MEP in English; publication of scientific articles in English; participation of undergraduates, teaching staff in various English-language events (contests, exhibitions, conferences, round tables, seminars, forums, etc.); a trip to leading foreign enterprises for internships;
  • attracting undergraduates to research, research and development departments and universities to carry out master's projects on relevant topics that meet the needs of production and the priorities of the national policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (state programs, sectoral development programs) in the field of livestock. 

General characteristics of the educational program

The educational program “Livestock Branches” of the specialized magistracy area is developed in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework and professional Standards, agreed with Dublin descriptors and the European Qualifications Framework, on the basis of the State Compulsory Postgraduate Education Standard (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 604 of October 31, 2018), and developed in collaboration with professors from the University of  Davis, California, University of Arkansas (Center for Advanced Poultry Technology), State Arkansas, USA.

The peculiarity of the implemented program lies in its orientation towards preparing graduates for professional activities, which combines knowledge and competencies in specializations (cattle breeding, sheep breeding, poultry farming), owning modern methods of organizing work in farms of various forms of ownership, where leadership of different types of livestock products.

The uniqueness of the educational program is - the practical training of professional disciplines directly in the basic farms and laboratory conditions.

Masters of Agriculture prepared under this educational program, incl. by specialization (cattle breeding, sheep breeding, poultry farming) are in demand at livestock production enterprises located in rural areas of various forms of ownership, where farm animals and birds of different species and breeds are bred. This is the peculiarity and competitive advantages of specialists studying in this educational program in three areas of training in the field of "Livestock, sheep and poultry farming".

The educational program is designed on the basis of a modular system for the study of disciplines and contains 6 modules that form the basic (general cultural, special language) and professional competencies.

EP includes 90 credits (2700 hours) of training, including: 50 credits (1500 hours) - of theoretical training, 18 credits (540 hours) - experimental research work and 12 credits (360 hours) - final certification. In this case, the undergraduate must master 16 credits (480 hours) for the university component and 34 credits (1020 hours) for the optional component.

Professional Areas

The scope of professional activity are:

  • local and republican state institutions, as well as various types of agricultural formations (individual, collective, farms, joint-stock companies, limited liability partnerships, production cooperatives, etc.);
  • public service, breeding in farms of various forms of ownership and organization for the production of livestock products, exhibitions and auctions of farm animals and birds, organization of export and import of livestock products.

Professional competencies:

to know: the fundamentals of fundamental and applied sciences in the fields of animal husbandry; general theoretical foundations of feeding, keeping, raising animals according to the branches of livestock breeding and methods for conducting research and mathematical processing of its results; fundamentals of livestock farming (cattle breeding, sheep breeding, poultry farming); fundamentals of technical regulation (standardization and confirmation of conformity) and requirements for quality, safety of livestock products.

be able to: formulate and justify conclusions, be able to create a new method for the specific task of production and processing of livestock products; comprehensively approach the situation, seek and find simple solutions in complex situations according to the specifics of the enterprise; manage time; quickly respond to market changes and identify priority areas of production; know and take into account the features of the adjoining areas, areas of livestock, apply in practice theoretical knowledge in the field of livestock, sheep and poultry.

have skills: apply practical and cognitive skills in strategic planning, job evaluation, situation analysis; focus on working with real problems in real production situations; to have a large set of well-functioning modern methods, technologies in feeding, breeding, keeping farm animals.

be competent in: the practical use of in-depth knowledge in the field of livestock, sheep and poultry; identify priority areas of production; know and take into account the features of the adjoining areas, areas of livestock breeding, the management of a group of employees with the acceptance of responsibility for the result of their actions on the technological process site.
