Theaim of the educational program is trainingspecialists of a new format, competitive in a labor market, with extensive fundamental knowledge and practical experience, with modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of animals, taking into account the requirements of employers. 

The main tasks are the following: 

  • Prevention, diagnostics, treatment of diseases of various etiologies of animals;
  • veterinary and sanitary control of products and raw materials of animal origin or phytogenic;
  • protection of population from diseases common to humans and animals;
  • protection of the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan from introduction of contagious diseases from other states;
  • organization and performing monitoring of the occurrence and spread of animals’ diseases;
  • ability to work with the scientific and technical information;
  • using of domestic and foreign experience and professional activities;
  • formation of both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in professional activities. 

General characteristics of the Educational Program 

The topicalityof the developed educational programs (EP) is that it complies with the requirements of a standard curriculum and competencies of the graduate of the first day (a specialist in veterinary medicine) of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), making itpossible to integrate EP in the international veterinary educational space. The importance of EP for the national economy is determined by the fact that it trains specialists for the labor market to ensure the veterinary, biological and food safety of the country. 

The peculiarity of the developed EP is that in terms of structure, consistency of training and components of disciplines, it is coordinated by 60-70% with the curriculums of leading world universities in the field of veterinary education (University of Giessen, University of California, Davis, Toulouse National Veterinary school), which will contribute to the professional mobility of students.

The competitive advantage of this EP is that it is developed taking into account the specific proposals of the “Atameken” National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, which provides training for specialists adjusted to the requirements of regional labor markets in Kazakhstan. The uniqueness of the EP allows to create conditions for the comprehensive development of the future veterinarian specialist personality with stable professional competencies, and also able to develop social partnership and entrepreneurship.

The EP was developed by: regional territorial inspections of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republican Veterinary Laboratory, the National Reference Center for Veterinary Medicine, veterinary clinics, and agricultural entities. 

Structure

The educational program consists of theoretical training, including the study of general education disciplines, basic and major subjects; professional internship, physical training, etc. The volume of the EP is 300 credits, including 240 credits of theoretical training, 28 of professional internship, 8 and 12 credits of physical training, completing a thesis, 12 credits of final certification. 

The sphere of professional activity:

A specialist in this area should be trained to:

  • preserve and ensure health of animals and health of humans;
  • diagnose, prevent and treat infectious, invasive and non-infectious diseases of animals, birds and fish bred in farms of various directions and forms of ownership;
  • prevent of diseases common to humans and animals (disease from animals);
  • perform expert veterinary-sanitary inspection of animal and vegetable products;
  • work on developing and circulation of medicines for animals;
  • work on environmental protection from pathogens transmitted by sick animals and dead animals.

  • medical;
  • production and technological;
  • organizational and management;
  • experimental research;
  • research;
  • design;
  • educational.
  • military veterinary service;
  • all types of economic entities of agricultural production;
  • circuses, hippodromes, associations engaged in breeding of pedigree animals;
  • Veterinary hospitals, dispensaries of veterinary medicine, laboratories, zoos, nature reserves;
  • institutions of the state veterinary service. 

Professional competencies:

The specialist should:

be aware of:

  • modern factors in the development of the disease;
  • general principles for the study of the etiology, pathogenesis of diseases, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, the development of disease prevention measures;

know:

theoretical foundations of classification, the specifics of etiology and symptoms, moderndiagnostic methods, effective methods of prevention and treatment of animal diseases;

be able to:

conduct diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment and prevention of diseases; write a post-mortem examination minutes;

have the skills in:

  • clinical examination of animals, diagnostics;
  • treatment and prevention of diseases of animals, birds and fish;
  • transportation, reception and delivery of animals for slaughtering and birds for slaughtering;

be competent in:

-in the field of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of animal disease.

The place of the Program place in the national rating of IААR

5В120100 – Veterinary medicine speciality of S.Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University among higher educational institutions ofRepublic of Kazakhstan, running educational activity on this speciality, took thesecond place in rating by IААR, collecting 1900 points.
