1. 1994–1998 — Project leader under the budget program of the National Center for Agrarian Research: “Determination of mycotoxins and development of veterinary-sanitary assessment of livestock products”;
2. 2006–2009 — Project leader under the SKG line: “Implementation of food safety best practices in veterinary-sanitary expertise laboratories in the Republic of Kazakhstan”;
3. 2009–2011 — Project leader under Program 042 of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “Development of methods for detecting microorganisms, hazardous substances and assessing the safety of livestock products”, task: “Improving methods for detecting pathogenic microorganisms and substances dangerous to human health in raw materials and products of animal origin”;
4. 2012–2014 — Project leader under Program 042 of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “Development of methods for quality assessment and control of veterinary-sanitary safety of livestock products and feeds”, activity: “Improving methods for assessing the veterinary-sanitary quality of livestock products”;
5. 2012–2014 — Project leader under budget program 055 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “Technogenic impact on livestock products and veterinary-sanitary assessment”;
6. 2014–2017 — Coordinator for the international project TEMPUS-1-2014-1-IT-JPCR: “Development of Master’s programs in safety, technology and marketing of traditional products (in Russia and Kazakhstan)”. Project coordinator: International Center for Higher Education in Agriculture (Montpellier SUPAGRO, France).
7. 2015–2017 — Project leader: “Environmental consequences of Proton-M launch vehicle launches in livestock farming”; 2018–2020 — Project leader of Project No. AP05130808: “Impact of the consequences of Proton-M launch vehicle launches on the environment and development of detoxification methods”. For the first time in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the impact of Proton-M launches on the environment—water, vegetation, and livestock products—was studied and detoxification methods were developed. Two PhD dissertations, four Master’s theses, and six diploma projects were written and defended. Based on the research results, the following were published/issued: 3 peer-reviewed articles, 2 innovation patents, and 2 recommendations for production.
8. 2018–2020 — Project leader of Project No. AP05132302: “Problems of the ecological situation of the Shchuchinsk–Borovoye resort area”. For the first time, ecological problems of the Shchuchinsk–Borovoye resort area were investigated; safety maps of ecological objects were compiled; scientifically substantiated recommendations were provided for veterinary-sanitary assessment of livestock products and environmental objects. One PhD dissertation, five Master’s theses, and five diploma projects were written and defended. “Recommendations on veterinary-sanitary assessment of livestock products and environmental objects (case study: the Shchuchinsk–Borovoye resort area)” were developed and implemented. Five safety maps of ecological objects were compiled and developed.
9. 2015–2017 — Project leader: “Assessment of the quality and food safety of honey from ecologically hazardous zones of central and eastern Kazakhstan and development of new methods for its research”. Based on the research results, the following were published/issued: 2 peer-reviewed articles, 2 innovation patents, and “Recommendations on veterinary-sanitary examination of honey (taking into account EU requirements)” for food safety laboratories of Karaganda Region, for educational and research processes for specialists and students of agricultural universities. One PhD dissertation was defended.
10) 2021–2023 — Project leader: “Development of a domestic energy and immunomodulating beverage ‘BALKYMYZ’”. Based on the research results, one peer-reviewed article was published, a Eurasian patent was obtained, and the Grand Prix “Best scientific project” was awarded based on Ónertabys pitch results.

Master’s and PhD students supervised

Scientific supervision of PhD and Master’s students is provided. To date, 15 researchers have defended their theses under Professor B.S. Maikanov: nine Candidates of Veterinary Sciences, one Doctor of Medical Sciences, and four Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), as well as many Masters of Veterinary Sciences (H-index: 4).

• For a significant contribution to the development of scientific research in veterinary-sanitary assessment of the safety of livestock products, as well as for great achievements in teaching and mentoring young specialists, Professor B.S. Maikanov has been awarded Letters of Appreciation from President N.A. Nazarbayev (2007) and the Rector of S. Seifullin Kazakh AgroTechnical University (2002);
• the badge “Honored Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2002); honorary certificates from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1996, 2007) and the Rector of S. Seifullin Kazakh AgroTechnical University (1997);
• jubilee medals “55 years of KazATU” (2012) and “60 years of KazATU” (2017). B.S. Maikanov is a recipient of the state grant “Best University Teacher” (2006, 2018), a recipient of the state scientific scholarship for scientists and specialists who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology (2016, 2024).
• In 2014 and 2016 he entered the national ranking of the best university teachers of Kazakhstan (TOP-30). Included in the international encyclopedia “The Best in Education”.
• In 2023 he was awarded the state honor — the Order of “Qurmet”. In 2023 — the S. Seifullin Medal.
