Bachelors, masters and doctoral students are trained in five educational areas at the department of Power Supply. The graduation of bachelors and masters (profile and scientific and pedagogical directions) is aimed at training bachelors of engineering and technology, masters of engineering and technology, masters of technical sciences and doctoral studies РhD.

The main activities of the department are research and teaching in the field of electric power.

The staff of the faculty of the department makes up 34 people, of which 5 are doctors of technical sciences, 4 doctors of PhD, 11 candidates of technical sciences and 13 masters.

The department conducted research projects on 4 grant topics of a fundamental and applied nature for the period 2015-2017 and 2018-2020 within of grant funding. The work was carried out under the guidance of Doctor of Technical Sciences Utegulov B.B. and Doctor of Technical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tatkeev G.G.:

  1. Grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic "Improving the quality of the wool processing process on multi-line carding machines with a deeply regulated, resource and energy-saving asynchronous electric drive."
  2. Grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic "Development of innovative technologies to increase the efficiency of work for own needs with a voltage of 6 kV power plants."
  3. Development of innovative technologies for increasing the efficiency of power supply to power consumers with voltage up to 1000 V for mining enterprises.
  4. Introduction of a resource-saving heat supply system for the energy efficient functioning of decentralized objects.

Material and technical base

The department "Power supply" has 6 educational and research laboratories, including 2 computer labs, equipped with modern computer technology for laboratory work, course and diploma projects. The technical base of the laboratories is constantly being modernized, the monitoring of modern samples of electrical equipment is regularly carried out and the corresponding changes are made to the laboratory base.

The laboratories of the department have special equipment that contributes to the formation of the necessary research and practical skills. The equipment of educational laboratories is used in the study of such disciplines as "Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering 1, 2", "Industrial Electronics", "Information and Measuring Technology", "Fundamentals of Automation", "Electric Lighting", "Power Plants and Substations", "Electrical networks and systems”,“ Fundamentals of safety in electrical installations ”,“ Relay protection and automation of electrical power systems ”.

The department is equipped with modern measuring equipments. The laboratory fittings of the department correspond to the tasks and objectives of training highly qualified specialists.

The department is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences Tatkeeva Galina Galimzyanovna.



Department history

The Department of Electric Power Supply was established in 1969, due to the need to introduce courses of General Electrical Technology and Use of Electric Energy at the Faculty of Agriculture’s Mechanization. In addition to the electrotechnical subjects, Department was assigned a  teaching others not related to Electrical Engineering courses: Statistics, Computational and Mathematical Methods, Technical Mechanics, etc. Lecturers of the Department ave conducted in thirteen different subjects. Therefore, the Department formation period had been complicated and protracted. It was necessary to construct laboratories with modern equipment, displays, installations, that were not produced in factories, to collect samples of industrial equipment. However, eventually these difficulties had been overcome. The great work had been done in the formation of the Department and the organization of its laboratory facilities by the following lecturers: Y.Venediktov, Y.Anisimov, S. Maletskiy, A.Plisuchenko, E.Kulinskiy.

The Department of Electric Power Supply conducted persennel training on "Electrification of Agriculture" specialization. The first dean of the Power Engineering Faculty was Y.Venediktov, who had been invited  to Tselinograd by M.Karlinskaya, the dean of Mechanization Faculty.

The main purpose of the educational program isto provide basic training in service and operational activities at electric power facilities.

In general, the tasks of the professional activity of specialists in the power supply systems of industrial enterprises, agro-industrial complex, cities and towns are: maintaining electrical installations in working order; training and organization of work of operational, maintenance and operational personnel; perception of information about the state of electrical installations and its awareness, i.e. detection of deviations in the controlled processes of generation, conversion, distribution, transmission and consumption of electrical energy; determining the degree of need for intervention in the operation of electrical installations, in the event of deviations; development of alternative interventions; comparison of solution alternatives in terms of efficiency and reliability; making a decision, implementing it and adjusting the results, depending on the further course of the process.

  • to train a specialist of a new formation with broad fundamental knowledge, with a high level of professional culture, possessing the technical skills of design, research in the field of electric power engineering, operation and repair of electrical equipment, as well as knowing the economic characteristics of the infrastructure of the electric power industry;
  • to teach the student to make an engineering calculation of power supply systems and automation of electrical installations and technological complexes, to choose electrical equipment, to practically implement the installation, commissioning and operation of power supply systems and electrical devices, to conduct an engineering analysis of electrical energy issues, to solve organizational, managerial, design and research problems using information technologies;
  • prepare a specialist with practical skills in reading electrical drawings, designing electrical, wiring and other circuits for various purposes, drawing up technical reports, setting the parameters for the optimal operation of electrical equipment;
  • formation of profiling knowledge, abilities, skills and competencies in the field of electric power industry among trained specialists.

The base of passing professional practices

Professional practice is the practical development in production of professional skills and abilities in accordance with the future specialty and specialization. Professional practice is of three types: educational, industrial and pre-diploma.

Educational practice is designed to get acquainted with the specifics of future professional activities, acquire skills in solving practical professional problems.

The industrial practice has the goal of obtaining skills in the practical use of the theoretical professional knowledge.

In the pre-diploma practice, the student collects and systematizes the source materials for the implementation of the diploma project (work).

The purpose of the educational program "Power supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agro-industrial complex" is to train highly qualified specialists with in-depth scientific and pedagogical training, capable of formulating and solving modern scientific and practical problems in science and in production related to the process of power supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agro-industrial complexes.

  • formation of a theoretical knowledge base for mastering professional competencies;
  • the ability to apply the knowledge gained to solve relevant problems;

Competencies:

As a result of studying this discipline, the student must:

- know the basics of mathematical modeling, the basics of the theory of functions of a complex variable, topological methods for calculating electrical networks, methods for solving optimization problems, methods for statistical processing of experimental results, methods for analyzing the stability of systems;

- be able to-independently choose the calculation methods, choose the necessary software, solve computer problems, analyze the results obtained and draw conclusions from the results of calculations.

Stability of electric power systems

Competencies:

Know: equivalent circuits for the main elements of the system, engineering methods for calculating transient processes, basic calculation formulas characterizing the quantitative relationships between the parameters of transient modes. The purpose of the educational program

The educational program "Electrical complexes and systems" was created on the basis of an analysis of the current state of the economy in the field of energy, taking into account the requirements of the labor market, trends in the development of the electric power industry and the request of employers. Training, taking into account the country's development prospects, competitive highly qualified personnel with high spiritual and moral qualities, capable of independent thinking and ensuring progressive scientific, technical, socio-economic and cultural development of society.

The purpose of the educational program is to train highly qualified specialists with in-depth scientific training, capable of formulating and solving modern scientific and practical problems in science and production in the field of electric power.

The areas of professional activity

  • conducting research and development in the field of heat power engineering and electrical technology, energy use and energy supply in separate sections (stages, tasks) of the topic in accordance with the approved methods;
  • development of program plans and test methods, participation in experiments, observations and measurements, drawing up their descriptions and conclusions in the development of modernization and operation of electric power and electrical equipment;

Multilingual Education

The department offers training in multilingual groups for bachelor`s and master`s students of the educational programs:B062-Electrical and Power Engineering, M099-Power and Electrical Engineering. In the modern world, competitive and highly qualified specialists are highly valued in the labor market. The focus of multilingual education is not only on trainingof competitive specialists but also this type of education has the goal to develop communication skills and the ability for critical thoughts.

The Education in multilingual groups is conducted by highly qualified professors of the department: senior teacher, master Ansabekova G, senior lecturer, master Slipchenko S., assistant, master Kurabaev I., associate professor, Ph.D. Uakhitova A., associate professor, Ph.D. Utegulov A.

Since 2020, training on EP "Electrical Engineering" has been offeredfor bachelor students of the department where the following disciplines are taught in English: Introduction to the electric power industry, Transient processes in the electric power industry, Quality and metering of electrical energy, Professional foreign language as well as general education disciplines Information communication technologies and Philosophy.

Since 2015, graduate students have had the opportunity to study the following disciplines of the EP as "Electric Networks", "Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises, Cities and Agroindustrial Complex" in English: Mathematical modeling of energy processes, Special issues of relay protection and automation, Stability of electric power systems, as well as disciplinesof  Foreign language (professional), Psychology of management, Pedagogy of higher education, History and philosophy of science.

The main goal of the educational program is to provide basic training in design and research activities in the field of electricity.

The main goals of the educational program are:

  • training a specialist of a new formation with broad fundamental knowledge, with a high level of professional culture, with technical skills in design, research in the field of electric power engineering, operation and repair of electrical equipment, as well as with knowledge of the economic characteristics of the electric power industry infrastructure;
  • teaching the student to make an engineering calculation of power supply systems and automation of electrical installations and technological complexes, to choose electrical equipment, to practically carry out installation, commissioning and operation of power supply systems and electrical equipment, to conduct an engineering analysis of electrical energy issues to solve organizational, managerial, design and research tasks using information technologies;

The main goal of the program is to train highly qualified specialists involved in the production and distribution of electricity, with in-depth scientific and pedagogical training, capable of formulating and solving modern scientific and practical problems in science and production in the field of electric power.

Educational program "Power supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agro-industrial complex"

The main goal of the program is to train highly qualified specialists with in-depth scientific and pedagogical training, capable of formulating and solving modern scientific and practical problems in science and production related to the process of power supply to industrial enterprises, cities and agro-industrial complexes.

The main objectives of the educational program:

  • Formation of a theoretical knowledge base for mastering professional competencies;

  • Ability to apply the acquired knowledge to solve relevant problems;

  • Obtaining by undergraduates practical skills in solving specific professional problems in the design of power supply systems for objects;

  • Acquaintance with the real production processes of industrial enterprises, cities and agro-industrial complexes and research and design activities.

International cooperation

An international scientific and practical online conference on "Energy saving" was conducted on the 16th of February, 2018 in a small conference hall of S.Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical university.

The webinar was attended by representatives of Bashkiria and Poland. Presentations were made with reports and discussions of teachers and students of the departments of heat power engineering of KazATU, Bashkir state agrarian university and professor of the Faculty of energy and air navigation of the Warsaw university of Technology Arthur Ruzovic. In the course of the work, topical issues were discussed in the field of heat power engineering, subjects of scientific research of the departments, level and methods of teaching the students, etc. All who participated the conference were interested in variety of subjects of reports and discussions interested all those present. The sides exchanged contacts and agreed on plans for joint international scientific cooperation between KATU and the Bashkir state agrarian university and the Technological university of Warsaw.

The conference that was organized by the departments of heat power engineering, was very  successful and allows to activate students' thinking, to broaden their horizons, to instill interest in research work and to reveal the potential of future specialists in power engineering.

Professor Arthur Ruzovich, the deputy dean of the faculty of energy and air navigation of the Warsaw university of technology was at S.Seifullin Kazakh agrotechnical university in the period from 12 to 16 February, 2018. The professor devoted a course of lectures for studying undergraduates on the topic "Pinch Point Technology" at the departments "Heat power engineering" and "Radio engineering, electronics and telecommunications" within the framework of the program of the European Union (EU) Erasmus + and GPFIIR. As a result, the training master students received a number of knowledge on pinch technology as a reliable, structured approach for solving a wide range of problems related to improving the efficiency of the main process and auxiliary maintenance systems. Pinch analysis is a highly structured method, it leads to an assessment of all practical and selected improvements, both for individual processes and their combinations. The technology shows the optimal location of heat exchangers. With this method, we can choose the right location of the equipment. In the course of the lecture and practical training, the undergraduates in the specialty 6M071700 - "Heat power engineering" received useful practical and theoretical knowledge.

Student life

Education improvement in "Electric power engineering" is directed on training of highly qualified specialists that assumes formation of highly educated creative persons.

In modern conditions а formation of sense of justice of students, readiness to resist to illegal manifestations among the youth have particular importance this is on increase of the social status, civil and patriotic, legal and polycultural education of youth. Held events within civil and patriotic, legal and polycultural education raise level of the contents, methods and technologies on the basis of real interaction of teaching and educational structures.

Organization of events on civil patriotically, legal and polycultural education is directed on formation of a civic stand and patriotic consciousness, legal and political culture.There are development of national consciousness, culture of the international relations, the social and religious tolerance based on humanity, love and respect for language, history and customs of the Kazakh people, preservation and development of its best traditions, learning and mastering of cultures of other people of Kazakhstan.

For students of this  specialty such events as the virtual round table on the theme "First President of RK" were held, annually "The message of the president to the people of Kazakhstan" is discussed.

Annually students of 1 course S. Seifullin KATU within educational action visit the local history and nominal museums of Astana (The museum of the first President of RK, S. Seifullin's museum, etc.).

The circle of amateur performances, a circle of the art word, a musical circle and debate club function for development of creative abilities.

At the moment sport sections on volleyball, basketball, table tennis, types of  national games are conducted.

In 2015-2016 academic year students of the department participated in the Republican subject competition on discipline of the compulsory component of «Electric power engineering» on the specialty "Electric power engineering", which was organized in Almaty institute of energy and communication in April, 2016, took 1 all-command place.
