In order to provide high-quality training of specialists in the field of thermal power engineering and expand the geography of academic mobility, the department is working to strengthen international cooperation.
To date, the department successfully cooperates with Irkutsk State Agrarian University named after A.A. Yezhevsky, Petrozavodsk State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Rusensk University named after A.A. Yezhevsky. Angela Knecheva. Doctoral students of the department annually undergo scientific internships at these universities.
In 2020-2023, cooperation agreements were concluded with the Rusyn University named after Angel Kynchev and Warsaw University of Technology, Tashkent State Technical University named after I. Karimov, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Russia. The agreement includes cooperation in the field of education and research, contributing to the effective training of highly qualified specialists with higher education and postgraduate scientific personnel relevant to modern and promising energy technologies and renewable energy technologies, as well as achieving the integration of vocational education and science. The issues of academic mobility, scientific internships on research topics, preparatory work for the opening of joint double-degree programs, participation in seminars and conferences were considered.
A cooperation agreement has been signed with the «Nazarbayev University Research and Innovation System». The purpose of the Agreement is:
- combining the scientific and professional potential of KATI, as one of the leading agrotechnical universities, and NURIS, as one of the leading research centers, their experimental and production bases in order to consolidate the efforts of the Parties in improving the effectiveness of scientific research, training and retraining of personnel for the needs of energy and industry;
- combining the efforts of the Parties to train personnel who meet the modern requirements of energy and other industries and are able, upon graduation, to solve practical, scientific and technical problems in the field of thermal power engineering and renewable energy.
Dual training
For many years, traditional education has been based on the transfer of ready-made knowledge from a teacher to a student. This led to the improvement of the methodology for increasing the amount of information that can be transmitted to the student during his studies. Professional teachers who studied teaching methods as part of their pedagogical education and honed their skills over many years of teaching were the best at this.
However, the situation is changing. Increasing the pace of change in the world around us poses new challenges to learning. On the part of the employer, not only knowledge in itself and the ability to apply it in practice are becoming widely demanded, but also the ability to find non-traditional solutions to problems, the ability to constantly learn and generate new knowledge in the process of work. The modern labor market poses more serious tasks for universities to train specialists with not only deep knowledge of the subject, but also skills in solving practical and creative tasks. Therefore, it becomes an urgent task to involve practitioners in the educational process. The practitioners have the following advantages: active involvement in solving practical problems; understanding the "pitfalls" that arise when applying theory in practice; the opportunity to familiarize students with real cases; acquaintance of students with potential employers, with their field of activity.
At the Department of Thermal Power Engineering, this task is implemented in two directions:
The department is actively working to attract full-time teachers, practitioners with long-term experience as a full-time employee at enterprises in the field of OP specialization. At the moment, the department employs teachers who have extensive experience in specialized enterprises and industries: Dikhanbayev B.I., Koshumbaev M.B., Saduakasova G.B., Tanyrbergenov N.M.
The department has organized dual training with the basic enterprise of JSC "Astana-Teplotransit". Based on the signed agreement, part of the classes are held directly on the basis of this enterprise. This gives students the opportunity to gain valuable integrated experience combining theory and practice.
Professional practice of students
The department has an extensive database of practices, which includes enterprises specialized in the field of thermal power engineering throughout the Republic of Kazakhstan. A dual training system is carried out with the main basic enterprises in Astana: Astana Energia JSC and Astana – Teplotransit JSC, on the basis of signed contracts.
The base of practices and employment
Certification of students
In modern conditions, professional certification opens up new opportunities for successful development for students. Through certification, they can demonstrate not only their knowledge and skills, but also their ability to master information, perseverance and ability to achieve goals. In addition, having a certificate provides a significant advantage when applying for a job. The fact that a student has a document certifying his qualifications distinguishes him in a competitive environment from his fellow students with the same diploma. In 2023, students and undergraduates of the Department of Thermal Power Engineering completed a course on heat supply and ventilation «Optimization of hydraulic circuits of HVAC». The course was taught by the Technical director of IMI Hydronic Engineering Suleimenov Bolat Kamytbekovich. IMI Hydronic Engineering is a leading provider of innovative and energy efficient solutions for world-class heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. IMI Hydronic Engineering's mission is based on helping to create and maintain cost-effective, reliable and purpose-appropriate heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Students of the specialty "Heat power engineering" together with the teachers take an active part in all events held at the faculty and the university (public holidays, sporting events, month on crime prevention, drug addiction and religious extremism).
For students organized a meeting with the heads and specialists of relevant organizations with an invitation to give lectures and excursions. Students of the department are to debate club "Elite", and sports clubs organized by the university.
As part of the socio-political, patriotic and legal education held curatorial hours devoted to the Kazakhstan national holidays, the conversation on the topic of discussion of the Annual message of the President, Strategy "Kazakhstan-2050".
Youth actively participates in conferences and round tables held by the Committee of Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the patriotic education of the group students visited Akmola camp "ALJIR".
The participation of the group's students in the Zhastar Zhalyny festival, which was held in a special, solemn format and was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As the organizers of the competition noted, the festival is designed to develop creative qualities among young people, as well as to foster patriotism.
The participation of the student of the Iztileu Gulsezim group in the university competition "Miss KATU", who also participated in the competition of Sports and ballroom dancing and took the first place and the student Kenshilikuli Ardak "Zhigit Sultans" took 3 places.
Athletic achievements of students of the Department of Thermal Power Engineering represented by a student of the Shagban Yerlan group and Yerdenbekov Dias, master of sports of the international class of MSMK, 4-time champion of the Republic of Kazakhstan, champion of Asia, India, the city of Pune, champion of international competitions, finalist of the World Cup, Hungary, the city of Sened 2nd place, bronze medalist among the youth of the World Championship, Slovakia, the city of Bratislava, bronze medalist of the World Championship among adults, Ireland, the city of Dublin.
Teachers and students of the Department of Thermal Power Engineering consider the organization of the work of student public associations as one of the significant areas of their activities. Graduates of the department, as experience shows, who were actively involved in social activities during their studies, found a job much easier and adapted to a new team. As a result of the functioning of student associations, a lot of specific work is carried out and at the same time students receive a huge moral charge, gain experience, organizational skills and professional knowledge. In any youth association, the problem of leadership and interpersonal relationships is acute. And this healthy competition among peers helps to identify the best generally recognized personality qualities of candidates for leadership.
